The Powell Brothers

The Powell Brothers are Country/Americana recording artists from Houston, Texas.

The group is fronted by brothers Taylor Powell (lead vocals) and Blake Powell (lead guitar). The Powell Brothers spent the first half of 2018 promoting their radio single “Coming Home.” The single enjoyed much success on the charts, spending seven weeks in the Top 20 on both the TRRR and CDX Traction Texas radio charts. The group’s new single, “Somewhere Down The Road,” released to radio on August 13th and was recognized as the highest debuting single on the chart. Both singles were produced by Scott Quintana and engineered/mixed by Gena Johnson (“A Star Is Born” soundtrack, Zac Brown Band, Brandi Carlile) and will be featured on “Leave on the Light,” the band’s first full length record coming out in February of 2019.

The Powell Brothers full-length debut album “Leave On The Light” combines elements of folk-rock, rootsy soul and country. The Houston-based band recorded this album during the aftermath and devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Perseverance, resilience and life on the road provide the backdrop for this new collection of songs that staggers artfully between timeless arrangements and sharp songcraft showcasing a defiant, evolving band on the rise. Taylor Powell had this to say about the new record:

“Hurricane Harvey definitely changed a lot of things for us,” explains Taylor Powell. “The plans we had been making for the previous few months were completely wiped out. As we were tearing down our childhood home, there were definitely many moments of despair. But as they say, when you are going through hell, keep on going. Looking back, it actually wiped the slate clean, and gave us an opportunity to do something much greater than we had planned before. We decided to use this as a sign that it was time to make the record we had always wanted to make.”

The band’s music really comes to life in their high energy live show. In 2018, The Powell Brothers burned up the highway, and the stages they played, hitting major markets from the east to west such as Portland, OR, Santa Fe, NM, Park City, UT, Atlanta, GA, Charlotte, NC. Notably, the band opened for country superstar Billy Currington (South Padre Island, TX); played the Chevrolet Main Stage at the State Fair of Texas (Dallas, TX) performed at the 2018 NHL Draft (Dallas, TX); and sang stirring renditions of the National Anthem and “God Bless America” to a packed house at Globe Life Park (Arlington, TX) during the Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers game.

The Powell Brothers have been selected to support numerous top national and regional acts, including sharing the stage with names like Lee Brice, Billy Currington, Josh Turner, Gary Allan, Granger Smith, Mark Chesnutt, Suzy Bogguss, The Bellamy Brothers, Pat Green, Cody Johnson, Randy Rogers Band, Jack Ingram and many more.

The band members have many interests outside of music, including sports. The group decided to combine their passions for music and sports by performing at some of the largest collegiate and professional sporting events in the country. The Powell Brothers have been featured at the ● American League Championship Series ● NHL Draft
● Mitsubishi Las Vegas Bowl ● Valero Alamo Bowl ● AT&T “Red River Showdown” and ● Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. The group has also performed “The Star Spangled Banner” for the ● Houston Astros ● San Diego Padres and ● Texas Rangers.

When asked about The Powell Brothers’ explosive growth and what the future holds, Taylor Powell explained:

“It all boils down to this; good songs and good people. We are committed to the craft of songwriting. Our goal is to make every song and every album better than the last, and to surround ourselves with the best people.”

Blake Powell echoes his brother’s thoughts and added:

“Our goal is to deliver recorded music and live performances worthy of the love and support we are so blessed to receive.”

The Powell Brothers will not slow down in 2019. In addition to the release of “Leave On The Light,” the band has a busy tour schedule that takes them as far west as Sweet Home, Oregon and as far east as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The group recently reached an agreement with the popular “Tin Roof” live music venues for concert dates in Memphis, TN (2/19), Birmingham, AL (2/21), Charlotte, NC (4/18), Myrtle Beach, SC (4/19), and Columbia, SC (4/20). The Powell Brothers will soon be releasing their 2019 Summer Tour schedule that includes concert dates in New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Colorado.
